NOT BATTERY POWERED.
I thought this unit had an internal battery; that was my fault. Nowhere in the description does it state that there is a battery inside the PL81 Pro. (I believe the older version did) so i'm not taking away stars because of this, like I said, my fault, I should have looked closer at the description. Unfortunately, because I didnt carefully read the product discription closely enough, I had to buy a power bank and a universal power bank clamp to power the light.
The light does loose a star because the controls that move the brightness and colour spectrum. The dimmer/Colour selector, are not the easiest to use. You have to push and hold the dimmer/spectrum control for a moment and the light will adjust. The problem is that there is a delay in the response when pressing the button to the response in the brightness/spectrum of the light. Therefore when you're trying to fine tune the brightness/spectrum it's difficult to get it to the setting you desire. I would prefer if there were full stops between the brightness/spectrum levels. In terms of the quality of the product I feel it is otherwise a good product. The diffuser works nicely and i'm content with the quality.
I use it solely with my Samsung Phone Cage (S26 Ultra), so I don't use the base in the capacity that one might use it set up on a laptop or desktop. However its a nice addition to the unit in case i did want to use that set uo. The PL81 Pro connects securely to the phone cage with the cold shoe. (Attached image.)
I would recommend, this product for vloggers and SmartPhone set-ups. Yes I like the PL81 Pro, change the buttons to accommodate full stops between the settings, and send me the updated unit, and I'll change this to 5 stars.
This streaming light works very well.I like the adjustable spectrum of light and the adjustable brightness without needing an app.I highly recommend.
I’ve got to say, I’m really impressed with this light! It has super easy to use controls right on the light for adjusting brightness and color temperature, which I absolutely love. The free software is nice, but I find it more convenient to just use the controls on the light itself.I use this to improve the quality of my streams and video calls for meetings, and it’s been great! The soft light diffuser is a breeze to install and does an amazing job. Even though I usually use the light for only 1 to 2 hours at a time, it never gets too hot, so I feel confident it can handle longer sessions without any issues.As for the included mount, it has been super stable, and worked well for me. I have used it standing on the desk and mounted to my monitor without issue.If you're on the hunt for a budget-friendly light for streaming and video calls, look no further. This one is a no-brainer!
I had previously purchased one of these lights for a streaming setup. it was great that I could connect it to my PC and control the lights from there, rather than trying to reach behind the setup to find the switch like I have had to on other models,Only downside that I have so far is that you have to make sure that enough power goes to them or they just don't work properly, for some reason they done work with a USB3 hub but if I plug them into a USB3 hub powered by Pcie they will work.I have also realised that they have started to not work seperately, if you change one light setting in the app then the second onee has the same setting.Might be just my PC and the software not playing well together.
Fits perfectly on my computer, good adjustable brightness, and doesn't show a reflection in my eyes on camera like a ring light would.
