A: Edge-lit ring lights produce softer, more even illumination by diffusing light across the panel instead of exposing individual LEDs. The NEEWER RB18B uses this design to create flattering lighting with smoother shadows for portraits, beauty content, livestreams, and close-up work.
Q: When should a ring light be used instead of a softbox?
A: A ring light is ideal for close-up work, beauty content, livestreaming, and video calls where even facial lighting is the priority. With adjustable brightness and color temperature, the NEEWER RB18B makes it easy to adapt to different shooting environments.
Q: What size ring light should you choose?
A: Larger ring lights provide broader, softer illumination for portraits, beauty work, livestreaming, and video production. The 18-inch NEEWER RB18B offers wide light coverage while remaining portable enough for studio and on-location use.
Q: Can the NEEWER RB18B be used without plugging it into a wall?
A: Yes. The NEEWER RB18B features a built-in rechargeable battery, allowing you to shoot without a power outlet. It's a convenient option for outdoor portraits, mobile beauty services, livestreams, and other on-location shoots.
Q: How long can the NEEWER RB18B run on battery power?
A: The built-in battery provides up to 70 minutes of continuous use at full brightness or up to 2 hours in ECO mode. Actual runtime may vary depending on brightness settings and usage.
Q: Does the NEEWER RB18B charge quickly?
A: Yes. The RB18B supports up to 100W PD fast charging through its USB-C port, helping reduce downtime between shoots so you can get back to creating sooner.
Q: Can the NEEWER RB18B be used while charging?
A: Yes. The RB18B can operate while connected to external power, making it easy to continue filming, livestreaming, or recording during longer sessions.
Q: Can the NEEWER RB18B be controlled remotely?
A: Yes. The included 2.4G remote lets you adjust compatible lights from up to 49ft (15m) away and synchronize multiple lights on the same channel, making multi-light setups easier to manage.
ReviewsI’ve used a bunch of ring lights in the past - many of which were also Neewer brand - and while this is the most expensive one ($282.99 at time of this review) I have tested, it’s also the brightest and most feature packed one. When I first opened the box I was very happy to see a carrying case (with foam cutouts) included. This is something a lot of ring lights don’t have but is very welcomed for both portability but also just packing away. Speaking of portability, with an internal battery, this thing is super quick and easy to take with you for some quick shots at places where AC power might be an issue. This won’t matter for some people but it will definitely be a selling point (and with the extra cost) to others. The included light stand packs nicely into the bag (awesome for travel!), and is built light yet still feels sturdy. It can go up to just under 6’, which should be enough for most people using this product. The stand is strong enough to support the light and other accessories with it, but that’s pretty close to its max. On the plus side the light uses a standard sized hole and lock so it can be used on any other stand (and this stand can be reused for other things as well when not in use). One more thing I really appreciate is the length of the power cable that’s included, so when you want to use it on AC power you don’t need to get a bunch of extension cords for basic use. This light comes with a 2.4g remote to control the light remotely. I wish this model was able to be controlled with the Neewer App, but it does not appear to be able to unfortunately. However, if you want to use this for selfie recording then they’ve got you covered as well with an included phone holder (and wireless trigger, which I admittedly haven’t used) and not one but three cold shoe mounts on the light so you can easily mount other accessories like a second phone/ camera, or audio equipment. The light itself is pretty bright and casts a nice even spread. It can be adjusted from 0 to 100%, and can adjust the colour temp from 2900 to 7000, which is wider than most.Overall, this is a pretty decent kit. The internal battery is something makes it super useful when on the go. If it could be used with the app it would be so much more useful for my workflows (as I have lots of Neewer products) but it’s still pretty decent value for the money… whether you want to pay that premium for the battery is up to you.
Mark my word, if you're serious about lighting but doesnt want to setup up multiple tripods around you and would just prefer the ease and convenience of one, while at the same time, hoping for a light that could deliver what you want? While also having that cute little circle reflection twinkling from your eyes as you make a video? THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!The brightness and temperature configuration is to the tee and is super accurate enough to fill in your specific needs. You want it brighter? Dimmer? Warmer? Maybe neutral? This can do it by increments of 1%. The change is subtle, but hold the buttons on the remote and you'll see it change in real time. Its is precise!Theres soooo many things to talk about so I'll just pick a random aspect to start with:1.) The remote: the remote has a nice backlit display and feels incredibly premium. Its reminiscent of the ones I got for my dslr's. Its lag free and has an amazing distance to effectiveness ratio.2.) The cellphone mount holder: its got 3 sockets u can select from and could even accomodate larger cameras if needed with the right mounts.3.) The cellphone holder is extremely strong and keeps your phone secured at all times, while the base tensioner works flawless without a hitch. Very easy to setup.4.) The tripod: the tripod is your run of the mill tripod. It goes up real high and also folds to a flat orientation, making the tripod perfect to support this mammoth of a ring light while still being at its lowest height. Perfect for couch video recordingAnd lastly?THE RING LIGHT: the light itself could go both the extremes, very dim to extremely bright. Luckily, you are able to actually adjust its lux by 1% increment. The Kelvin temps could go from super warm all the way to almost, but not quite, hospital/asylum white.Plus? The ring duals as a power bank or a pass through unit to charge your phone. Simply use the adaptor for the main socket and use the USB C in the rear. However, when on the go? This beast also has its own battery supply so it does not require to be plugged at all times! Yes, a true cordless solution for your lighting needs at an impressive duration. Left it at around 51% brightness and it lasted for about 3hrs give or take. And finally, if you just want simplicity when it comes to charging, since I know that all of us has tons of USB C ready, you can also opt to charge this unit via that rather than the designated charger it comes with.Note: some of you might have trouble turning this on because you didnt read the manual.Neither did I, but let me tell you something unique as to how to go about turning this unit on.1st, u have to press the power button. If charged, a line should appear by the main screen of the ring itself. When u see that line? U have to press + (3 times) so that the line, for every press of the + button, becomes a "circle".Next, if ud like to use the remote, make sure u see the blue light on the main dash to ensure that the ring knows. If you see no blue light? U gotta turn the light manually initially then the remote. You're able to turn the light via the remote yes, but the blue light indicator will remain for some time, indicating that it could once again be turned ON by the remote. Now, the remote is quite unique as well when it comes to turning the unit on. You have to first press the red (power) button on the remote. This will wake it up. Then after? Hold the red button. This will turn the ring light on :).It takes some time to get used to, but honestly, it works fantastically and ive got a hunch that neewer implemented this to ensure no accidental operation occurs. With that said, aside from its purpose built awesome protective carrying bag, this is honestly, hands down, the best of the best ring light I have ever come across in my life.It feels excessively premium, it feels super robust and it feels incredibly professional. And sometimes? These feeling is enough to justify anything at any price point.***note, if you try to turn the light on and it shows the battery (signal bar looking) flashing? Its low bat. Time to charge***.
This RB18B ring light is well built and the 18 inch size provides a nice, even spread of light with no hot spots and almost no shadows. It is edge lit which really makes a difference to the light quality. The colour temperature can be set from 2900K to 7000K and the maximum brightness is 3800 lux/0.5m.There are three cold shoes built in so you can mount a phone, camera, or other accessories like a microphone at the same time. There is a phone mount and a cold shoe to 1/4" adapter included. There is also a USB-A port that can be used to power a device. The built-in battery is excellent and is rated for up to 70 minutes at full power. It charges using USB-C up to 100W PD. An AC adapter is included and this allows continuous usage and bypasses the battery so there is no worry about affecting its lifespan. The front has a four button control panel with a clear display that shows the wireless channel, intensity, and colour temperature. It is quick and easy to change the settings using the panel but you can also use the included remote. The remote control uses 2.4G for long distance operation and the built-in display with backlight shows the power level, colour temperature, channel, and battery level. It works really well and you can hold down the +/- or brightness buttons to quickly change the setting which takes effect once you release the button. Setting the remote channel to 88 seems like it might control multiple lights at once but I couldn't confirm this.It comes with a great carrying case that has cutouts for the light and accessories. There's an included Bluetooth remote that can be used with your phone to trigger the shutter but I haven't used this. The included light stand is metal and is sufficient to support the light with accessories attached. The light attaches using a standard light stand mount so it can also be used with other stands. The only thing I didn't see mentioned was weather resistance so I would be cautious using outdoors or around water. Also note that it doesn't work with the Neewer app, unlike the smaller 12-inch light. An excellent ring light. The large 18 inch size and edge lighting makes for great light and the display makes checking settings easy. I really like the ability to power it using AC and not have to worry about the battery.
This Neewer 18” ring light and stand combo is a versatile tool for photography, crafts, video calls, and any project needing extra lighting. The package includes the light, a metal tripod stand, a power adapter, a phone mount, a remote control for the light, and a remote shutter button for your phone. Everything is neatly packaged in a large canvas case. The stand features telescoping legs that can extend over 6 feet high to the top of the attached light. The rods lock into place at your desired height using attached clamps. It’s a sturdy build, primarily metal, and surprisingly lightweight. While it’s fairly stable, locking the feet in their widest stance provides the best stability. The light simply sits atop the stand rod and secures with an included toggle screw. It rotates 360 degrees and can be angled forward and backward for optimal positioning.Charging or powering the light is easy with the included AC adapter.Performance-wise, this is one of the most impressive ring lights I’ve used. The large 18” size accommodates various setups, and the ring’s lighting area is wide and evenly diffused. It can get incredibly bright on high settings, making it suitable for larger rooms or further distances.A front display shows the exact colour temperature and brightness, which is handy for duplicating settings or matching other lighting. At the bottom, there are three cold shoe mounts for your phone, mic, or other accessories. The rear has inputs for the included adapter, USB-C, and a USB-A output for charging your phone or other devices. The convenience of being battery-powered is undeniable. The overall setup is surprisingly lightweight, making it easy to move and position without worrying about cables or outlet distance. The runtime is also impressive, with Neewer claiming 70 minutes at full power and an extended 2 hours in eco mode. I don’t typically use it at maximum brightness, so the battery life of course goes even further on lower settings.A phone mount is included, attaching to one of the lights’ cold shoes. The mount features a flexible arm and a clamp that securely grips your phone from the edges. A ball joint on the clamp allows for easy positioning in either horizontal or vertical orientation. The mount works well with the phone, and the large ring size, combined with three mounting locations, lets you position it easily, centring the lenses more effectively than with smaller ring lights. The light also comes with an RF remote control, featuring a small backlit LCD screen. This screen displays the same colour temperature and brightness settings, making it simple to adjust to your desired levels. The remote operates on two AAA batteries, which are not included.Additionally, the unit includes a remote shutter button for your phone. This is a simple one-button remote with a power button on the side, which connects to your phone via Bluetooth. It’s powered by a CR2032 coin cell battery, which is included and pre-installed. The remote functions as expected, allowing you to take photos or start/stop recording on your phone. The phone setup with the mount and remote is convenient, especially for self-photography.Overall, I’m quite satisfied with this light and stand combo. I haven’t encountered any major issues with it. It’s a premium-quality product with excellent performance and features that is easy to recommend.
