The NEEWER RF1-C Macro Ring Flash does exactly what it needs to do—deliver consistent, even lighting for close-up photography without adding unnecessary complications. The build quality feels very solid for the price, and while it's not a high-end studio tool, it performs well for macro shots of small objects, textures, and even portrait work when a softer light is needed. The interface is straightforward, with intuitive controls that allow for easy adjustments, and the inclusion of multiple adapter rings ensures compatibility with a variety of lenses. It will take a bit of trial and error to get used to using it but once it's dialed in, it delivers great results.Performance-wise, the flash provides a balanced illumination that eliminates harsh shadows, which is especially useful for macro photography where lighting can be tricky. The adjustable power levels allow for a good range of creative control, whether shooting highly detailed subjects or softer close-ups. The battery life holds up well through extended use, and the flash recycles quickly enough to keep up with most shooting scenarios. While it may not match the refinement of more expensive alternatives, it delivers reliable results for anyone looking to improve their macro shots or just getting into macro photography without breaking the bank. It's a great deal for the price, I would recommend.

Shooting close-ups indoors was always tricky, but this flash made a big difference. It clips right onto the lens, keeping everything evenly lit without weird shadows. I tried it on some tiny details, old coins, plants near the window, and it made everything pop without messing with my camera settings too much. The biggest downside? AA batteries. They drain faster than I’d like, and swapping them mid-session is annoying. A rechargeable option would’ve been better. Still, for the price, it’s a solid tool for anyone testing the waters with macro photography before splurging on something fancier.

I didn't know I missed this from my photo shoot collection. I been using a regular camera flash for a while, and it nice, but this just make the light much nicer when I'm up close on subject. It much cumbersome than just a flash, but it worth it. The magnetic filter are easy to install, but I didn't like to use them so far. The build quality made me feel like I was holding my original Canon flash. Everything felt good and the control also felt like it should be. The wire is a bit think and stiff, and when it was freezing, it did pull a bit on my zoom toward the camera, but I've since then made it a bit looser and it work just fine. So compared to canon macro flash, this is so much worth it at a fraction of the price.

Review:Although it took me a while to nail down the correct settings and technique for the macro shots I was doing, it was well worth the wait. It took me a few hours of practice to feel really confident using it, but now I can knock out macro shots no problem. It's easy to use, you just need to spend some time using it to feel comfortable. I would recommend patience if you buy this product, and if you have it then you won't be disappointed!Material and build quality is good, and it's easy to attach/install.Pros 👍:✔ Price✔ Easy to install✔ Great for macro shotsCons👎:✘ Takes time to learn how to use effectivelyScore:★ ★ ★ ★ ★Conclusion:I would recommend this product

I am really into macro photography and currently own the Canon 100mm L lens, the M-PE 65mm macro lens, the YONGNUO YN24EX dual head flash and now this Neewer flash.Overall, like many other Neewer products this one has good fit and finish and offers the 90% of Canon quality and features at a quarter of the price. That is the bargain you strike when you buy Neewer. To every macro lover it quickly becomes apparently that light is the biggest limitations in macro photography. On a sunny day outside you are fine but try getting a clean (iso 100) image indoors and you'll struggle. A flash like this Neewer attaches to the front end of the lens which is necessary for macro because the front of your lens is so close to the subject and a traditional flash would cash a shadow from the hot shoe. This flash does not have moving heads so the lighting is relatively flat. You can change the power from left to right which can help create some shadows and add depth. The small size and simple set up makes this a lot easier to learn macro lighting and much easier to carry around. For a beginning I definitely recommend this before going for a dual head like the YONGNUO YN24EX.

As someone diving deeper into macro photography, I picked up this ring flash a few days ago, just in time for December's dim lighting here in Canada. Shooting indoors - whether it's my elderly parents' antique trinkets or winter plants near the window - felt much smoother with this. The even lighting minimizes harsh shadows, making close-ups crisp and detailed, which my Canon struggles with naturally. I did try it outdoors after a snowfall while photographing tiny ice formations on branches, and it performed decently despite being a bit fiddly to balance settings at first. The color gels are fun to experiment with, though I think clearer instructions for beginners would help - adjusting manual flash ratios took a bit of trial and error. I would recommend to keep spare AA batteries nearby; the recycling time slows after longer sessions. Overall, it's lightweight, easy to mount, and a great tool for close-up shots when natural light isn't on your side.

I've been quite happy with this macro ring flash from NEEWER. It's a great entry level option if you're looking to get into macro photography without breaking the bank. Build quality is solid overall. This comes with a variety of step up adapters, so you won't have any issues getting this to work on whatever lens you choose to use this with. The control panel on the main flash unit is large and easy to read. I appreciate that this uses actual physical buttons to operate, making changes easy based on tactile feel even if you aren't looking directly at the screen. This offers TTL functionality which works reasonably well, but personally I find the manual shooting experience for macro to work a lot better. The ring design gives you nice even lighting across your subject. The included color cast gels are a bit finnicky to install and remove, but i consider them more of an extra than anything honestly. This does use 4x AA batteries rather than a rechargeable lithium battery so keep that in mind.Overall this is a reasonable option if you're just beginning to dabble in macro photography and don't want to invest a huge amount. You will likely grow out of this fairly quickly, with key upgrade points for me being use of AA batteries and the simple fact that the light is fully fixed onto your lens, limiting how much adjustment you can make with your light source. That said, if you're not sure macro photography is something you'll want to fully invest in, it's better to start off with something cheap, cheerful and functional like this rather than dumping a bunch of money into a macro set up with features that you likely won't use.
